Years ago, Boracay Island was a well-guarded secret, almost possessively so that only a few knew of its existence.
It was only in the 70's when, it is said, a foreign movie crew accidentally "discovered" this island paradise. Others maintain that it was the German traveller, Jens Peters' book, which included rave reviews of Boracay that changed the island’s pace from that of being a quiet secret to eventually being voted as having the best beach in the world.
Boracay's two primary tourism beaches, White Beach and Bulabog Beach, are located on opposite sides of the island's narrow central area. White Beach faces westwards and Bulabog Beach faces eastwards. The island also has several other beaches.

ボラカイ島の観光客に対しては、ビーチの白砂をボトルにいれて持ち帰らないよう注意されている。これは海洋生物学や海洋の研究により、こういった行為が繰り返されると4万年かけて造られた白砂が枯渇する恐れがあるという結果があるためである。観光地として有名になるにつれ、ボラカイ島は水の過剰使用、土地の用途規制、人口の増大、汚水、廃棄物といった環境問題に悩まされている。政府もこれらの問題に取り組み始めている。

Too many great beaches & hid-aways in this world to have seen them all by now, but so far for me based on the ones that I've been to... I'd say Boracay's White Beach tops them all! The sand is so fine that even a blistering noon sun don't make the sand bake your soles away!
Great food, too: my favourite Italian is Aria and the quaintest Greek you can find, Cyma, is located inside D'mall. Look for a tall muscle man called Andy who's sole job I suspect is to stand there prettily and attract customers with his oversized chest and broad smile!
Check out tons of bars & cafes that are lines along the beach where you can sip sinful drinks like "Bamboojito" as you watch sunset... or sunrise, depending on your state! LOL
One thing to be weary of... schmalzy music and fat old hairy geezers hanging at some of the sadest bars I've seen. But then you get to see identically dressed couples romantically strolling the beach. And that... put the irony & fun back into this very beautiful place!
If price is not a major issue, hotels on Station 1 and Station 2 are the best 'cos the stretch of beach in front will have fewer boats moored in front of you. The patio you see here is that of a hotel called Discovery Shores.
Oh... and, when flying there... I got off at Caticlan airport from where it's only a 10min or so boatride to Boracay. If you fly to the larger Kalibo airport, it'll take a good 2 hour drive to the beach... Not fun.
As for the little girl and the bundle of straw hats, just couldn't resist taking that shot 'cos the wee las is so small that it was as if those hats had little legs of their own!
